Wanna Dance Performance in Schools Company

The Wanna Dance Company teaches and demonstrates dance in Primary and Secondary Schools around the South Island of New Zealand.

Formed in 2001 by invitation from the Christchurch Arts Council, The Wanna Dance Company is made up of five professional and very versatile dancers who perform and run dance workshops specifically tailored to help schools with aspects of their dance curriculum.

There are two levels within the performance programme for primary and secondary school students. The programme teaches both students and teachers about the history of dance, genre and dance skills, which fulfill the dance component of the arts curriculum. The programme also helps teachers plan their dance units.

The Wanna Dance Company programmes have received accolades of praise.

Phillip Harding from Waimairi School said:
"The children were absolutely captivated by the Company's energy and underlying humour. The theme neatly matched and explored the essential elements of dance and the relevance of the performance to the Arts Curriculum was not missed by my teachers either."
